| My New Job |
[Jul. 3rd, 2006|01:43 pm] |
On July 12 I'll be starting a new career, one that I'm not thrilled about. In fact, I'm a nervous wreck. (I probably shouldn't use the word 'wreck' here) My husband, a truck driver, has talked me into getting a CDL and going on the road with him. We will be long haul team drivers. Can I believe this? No. Never would I have thought for a second that I would ever be a truck driver. It's just not "me". I'm too girly for this, I fear. I enjoy being in my comfy bed every night and walking into my bathroom whenever I feel the need. Not looking forward to finding an exit and a parking space everytime I have to pee! (I drink alot of coffee and water...that should be fun) Did I mention that I abhor public restrooms? Not only will I have to be a frequent user of public toilets, I will have to use the public showers, also. Soaking in a bubble bath? No can do. We'll be sleeping in the truck, not a motel room. This is a lifestyle that's not meant for everyone and I'm really not sure that I can do this.
There are good points about the job, though. Number one being the amount of money we will be earning. We'd be able to clear up our credit quickly, pay off his car, get a new car for myself, purchase a home, etc. Things we are unable to do at the moment. These are very positive 'life changes' and the only reason I'm going along with this craziness.
The negatives are many, but I'm trying not to be a selfish prima donna here...lol. So, I will try it and see. The school is a 23 day course with no off days. 7 days a week we will be hard at work learning to drive. I'll be staying in the provided motel mostly. The school is about an hour and a half drive from my house. The classes begin at 6:00 am, the bus leaves at 5:30am....I usually sleep until 10 or 11am. That's gonna suck for me!
The traveling part will be ok at first, until I've seen everything, lol. I will try to hit every poker room in the country!! I'm sure I'll have alot of stories to tell from the road, so I think it will help my blog alot. I don't have a life now, so having something to write about will surely help. :)
This blog and my poker blog will be on hold, though, at first. I won't have computer access during the school (unless I come home) and I'll have to wait until we can purchase a lap top after we do hit the road, which shouldn't be long.
Funny how life takes you places that you never would have imagined. |

| More Pool To Play |
[Jun. 16th, 2006|02:09 pm] |
|
I hope this isn't turning into a pool playing blog...:) I have two more shots at going to Vegas, though, for playing this lovely game of sticks and balls. One shot's with the "drunk Indian" and one is with my own team, of which I am captain. They're both for 9 ball singles, which is my best game. I really have no love for scotch doubles or singles 8 ball. Tomorrow is my last chance to get to that gambling mecca in the desert this year and I really want to go! So, wish us luck! |

| What's Your Weakness? |
[Jun. 9th, 2006|12:08 am] |
After reading Felicia's post today about being honest with yourself regarding your weaknesses, I decided to do the same. I thought it was a great idea. I'm going to be a copy-cat and list 5 weak spots in my poker play. I'd list my life-in-general weaknesses, but there's not enough time for that...way too many to mention. :) So, here's my top 5.
1. I'm far too passive in NL cash games. I don't have this problem in tournaments. In NL tourneys, I'm the TAG type. In NL cash games, I'm the big sissy type. I know it has to do with the chips=money issue and I'm working on it. I still have the fear of going broke and that fear is for losers. This is why I mainly play limit games. It's a rare day to see me at a NL table online.
2. I play too many marginal hands. Regardless of position and this is just stupid. That's why many of my sessions turn into the old one step forward...two steps back situation. I need to become 'one' with the fold button. It wants to be my friend, if only I would let it. Working on that.
3. I don't always treat online play as seriously as I do live games. I'm not a recreational player. I don't play for the fun of it, I play for the challenge of it. I play to win, not have a good time. I take every hand seriously (live). If you want me to drink it up and laugh it up with you, then we should play spades or dominos or something 'fun'. Ok, maybe, maybe, I could have fun at 2/4 limit...but nothing higher! And I'm not promising anything! :) I know my online play is off due to being at home and being 'comfortably distracted'. Oy, if only I could put in the hours at the casino that I do online. I'm sure my bankroll would thank me. BTW, I don't play as many marginal hands in live games. I'm not exactly sure why I play differently online, it's just another issue to work out.
4. I have poor bankroll management. I spend it as quick as I get it. Stupid. I'd like to build a roll to move up in limits. I'll never get there this way.
5. I spend 90% of my time playing LHE. To grow as a player, I need to learn to play other games, also. I've ordered several books on Omaha, O8 and Stud to help me along.
Well, there you have it. An honest look in the mirror. From this we've learned: I'm a too-intense, anti-social retard during live play and a loosey-goosey donk online. Yea, I'd say that's about right! :) But I'm working on it.... |

| A Drunk Indian |
[Jun. 8th, 2006|02:13 pm] |
Last Saturday, my pool teams (scotch doubles 8/9 ball)played in the City Tourney for the chance to go to Vegas and compete there. I really wanted to go, as I've never been to Vegas. I'm a degenerate gambler, after all, and there's no place like Vegas for a gambler!
So, we get there and my 9 ball team captain, a Choctaw Indian who's in her late 50's for cryin out loud, is totally toasted. It's 9 am. She hasn't stopped partying from the night before...what.the.hell??
It's done by a hadicap system and since she's our lowest handicap, we needed her badly. Unluckily, we drew the toughest team on the league for our first round. She puts me and herself up against these two men. I'm thinkin' there's no way we can beat them with her so drunk. Very quickly, we were down 15 balls. Then finally, I woke up and we made a comeback to actually beat these guys!! Woo hoo. Next round, please.
We continued to win (don't know how) and found ourselves in the final match. This was the trip match. Of course, it's late by then and my captain, who could barely walk at this point, switches from beer to whiskey. Perfect.
There was no way I was letting her play this match, but before I knew it had started and she puts herself up with another member of our team who's handicap had just been raised and she wasn't playing at that higher level yet. Screwed! So, screwed!
The match was against the first team we had played and beaten. It was dble elimination for first round losers. We could have beaten them again, had she been sober. We lost. I was so PO'd at her for ruining our chances at Vegas that I thought about quitting her team. I probably will. |

I can't believe I actually have 2 blogs going. This is so not like me! I'm a very private person, so this is rather unthinkable for me...all of this openness! :) My poker blog can be found here. This will just be a place I can feel free to ramble and get off topic from the poker stuff. Here goes.... |
